METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR CONTROLLING POWER IN A COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

A system and a method for controlling power in a communication system are provided to control the power in response to channel capacity between a BS and an RS and channel capacity between the RS and an MS, thereby improving the use efficiency of channels and a data transfer rate. A communication system comprises a BS(Base Station), an MS(Mobile Station), and an RS(Relay Station). The MS provides a communication service. The RS provides a multi-hop path between the BS and the MS. A method for controlling power in the communication system comprises the following steps of: allowing the RS to calculate the capacity of a first channel between the RS and the BS(203); allowing the MS to calculate the capacity of a second channel between the MS and the RS and transmit the calculated capacity of the second channel to the RS; and allowing the RS to calculate a power control value in response to the capacity of the first channel and the capacity of the second channel(209).
