APPARATUS FOR ENCODING AND DECODING AUDIO SIGNAL AND METHOD THEREOF

A method and an apparatus for encoding and decoding an audio signal are provided to encode slot position information into a various number of bits based on a position of a slot in arranged slot sets. A decoder includes an analysis filter bank(1102), an analyzer(1104), a spatial mixer(1106), and a mixing filter bank(1108). The decoder receives a down-mix signal(1101). The analysis filter bank converts the received down-mix signal into a frequency domain signal(1103). The analyzer generates spatial information from the converted down-mix signal. A down-mix parameter is generated from the down-mix signal. The down-mix parameter is converted to spatial information, such as spatial parameters. The down-mix parameter is generated by a matrix calculation of the down-mix signal. The spatial mixer mixes the spatial information(1105) with the down-mix signal to generate a multi-channel audio signal(1107). The multi-channel audio signal is fed to the mixing filter bank and converted to a time domain audio signal(1109).
