摘要 A VA(Vertical Alignment) mode transflective LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to form first and second convex units according to each pixel area without adding a mask process when forming a passivation layer on an array substrate, thereby omitting once mask process and accordingly reducing processes and improving productivity. In a first substrate(101), a pixel area(P) is defined. In the pixel area, a reflection unit(RxA) and a transmission unit(TfA) are defined. A gate line and a data line(130) are formed in an upper part of the first substrate and cross each other in lower and upper parts as leaving a space for a gate insulating layer(113). A TFT(Thin Film Transistor)(Tr) is respectively connected with the gate and data lines. A passivation layer(140) is formed in the reflection unit as covering the TFT. Plural convex units(145) are formed in the transmission unit. A reflection plate(148) is formed in an upper part of the passivation layer. A pixel electrode(155) comprises first and second sub pixel electrodes(155a,155b). The first sub pixel electrode is formed on the reflection plate as being contacted with one electrode of the TFT. The second sub pixel electrode is connected with the first sub pixel electrode and covers the plural convex units. The second sub pixel electrode has a convex shape by the plural convex units. A second substrate(171) faces the first substrate. A black matrix(173) is formed in the inside of the second substrate. A color filter layer(175) is formed in the inside exposed to the outside of the black matrix. A common electrode(181) is formed in the front of a lower part of the color filter layer. An LC layer(187) is interposed between the pixel electrode and the common electrode.
