A system and a method for automatically verifying a codec are provided to process the verification of an encoder and a decoder automatically through data comparison of an operation verifying unit, thereby increasing a processing rate and efficiently verifying the codec. An image generator(210) generates test image information for verifying a codec and store the generated test image information in a memory(220). An encoder(230) reads the test image information stored in the memory, encodes the read test image information, and stores the encoded test image information as first image information in the memory. A decoder(240) reads the first image information stored in the memory, decodes the read first image information, and stores the decoded first image information as second image information in the memory. An operation verifying unit(250) compares the test image information with the second image information, stored in the memory, to determine whether the codec is normally operated.
