A personal alarm device comprises a housing 10 with control or function keys 12 to input data about the number of scheduled stops for a journey on a train. The device includes sensing means which are responsive to the presence or absence of vibrations or motion to count the number of stops the train makes. An alarm system is caused to operate when, from a comparison of the number of scheduled and actual stops made, it is indicated that the user is approaching his or her destination. The alarm may operate through the headphones H of a personal disc player P. The device may also feature a journey timer display 14. A preset journey time can be used as a backup to trigger the alarm. |
