A tire mounter and a method of mounting a tire are provided to reduce a contact load of a tire when mounted on a wheel, by using a bead guide plate which travels ahead of a tire bead press roller of the tire temporarily fixed on the wheel at a bead part of a tire non-mounting side, functioning as a guide pallet for reducing frictions. A tire mounter receives a wheel(H) on which a tire(T) is temporarily fixed askew and mounts the tire on the wheel by rotating a tire bead press roller(400) around a center cone(300) when mounting the temporary fixed tire onto the wheel. The tire mounter comprises a bead guide plate(600) having an arc-shaped plate piece(610) whose bottom is located on the upper surface of the wheel, and an outer peripheral arc-shaped part located on the outer periphery of the wheel. The bead guide plate travels ahead of a bead part by rotating the bead guide plate in cooperation with the rotation of the tire bead press roller in the vicinity of a bead part of a tire non-mounting side of the temporarily fixed tire, wherein the bead part of the tire non-mounting side slides on the surface of the bead guide plate to be mounted on the wheel.
