A device and a method for updating a data valid value are provided to enable a user to easily understand meaning of a data value stored in a table, which is a physical storage for storing and managing the data, in a non-standardized system. An update target extractor(110) extracts a column not including an excluded word in a part of a column name while including a field word in a part of the column name based on the field word and the excluded word received from a user. A data valid value collector(130) collects a data valid value of each extracted column. A column definition document generator(140) generates a meaning definition document for the data valid value of each column by searching meaning of the collected data valid value of each column from a meaning dictionary database(170). A scheduler(120) schedules update according to an update date and period received from the user. A meaning definition document database(190) stores the generated meaning definition document. A meaning definition document inquirer(150) searches the meaning definition document of the column selected by the user and provides the searched meaning definition document to the user.
