An outdoor fireplace 10 comprises a combustion chamber 16, defined by an outer wall 14 which at least partially encloses the combustion chamber. The fireplace further comprises a screen 18 positioned within the outer wall, between the interior of the combustion chamber and the outer wall, so that a gap is formed between the screen and the outer wall to provide an insulating region. Preferably, the screen comprises a reflective material, such as stainless steel, to reflect the heat produced by a burning fuel. The outer wall and the screen may define a U-shaped opening (26, fig.4) in the combustion chamber to enable the heat from a burning fuel to be directed outwardly. The outer wall is preferably formed from a foamed concrete comprising fly ash, where the outer surface of the wall may be made from a closed-cell foamed concrete. Furthermore, the outer wall may be skimmed with a ceramic material to provide additional protection from weathering. Preferably, the screen is provided with grill holding formations which comprise either apertures 28 to receive a protrusion from a cooking grill 30 or protrusions on which a cooking grill may be positioned.
|
