<p>A process for the formation of biodiesel where a crude marine oil is degummed to remove phosphorus catalyst poisons (e.g. phospholipids). The degummed marine oil is then mixed with a mineral oil and this mixture is hydrotreated in the presence of hydrogen and a hydrotreating catalyst such as a Ni/Mo catalyst. The hydrotreated mixture is isomerised in the presence of an isomerisation catalyst such as a TON or MTW zeolite. Optionally the degumming can be excluded and the marine oil is then mixed directly with the mineral oil and hydrotreated.</p> |
