The invention aims at providing a concrete process for producing a dialkyl carbonate and a diol stably on an industrial scale of 2 tons or above and 1.3 tons or above respectively per hour with high selectivity and high productivity over a long period by a reaction-distillation method which comprises using a cyclic carbonate and an aliphatic monohydric alcohol as the raw materials and continuously feeding the raw materials into a continuous multi-stage distillation column holding a catalyst therein to conduct reaction and distillation in the column simultaneously. Although there are many attempts to produce dialkyl carbonates and diols by reaction-distillation method, all of the attempts relate to small-scale, short-period and laboratory-level production of dialkyl carbonates and diols and there is no particular disclosure about the process or equipment for mass-production thereof on an industrial scale. The invention provides a concrete continuous multi-stage distillation column having a specific structure which permits stable production of a dialkyl carbonate and a diol on an industrial scale of 2 tons or above and 1.3 tons or above respectively per hour with a selectivity of 95% or above, preferably 97% or above, still preferably 99% or above over 1000 hours or longer, preferably 3000 hours or longer, still preferably 5000 hours or longer; and a process for the production with the column. |
