摘要 An apparatus and a method for restoring a loss pixel by using directional interpolation are provided to estimate an edge direction of a loss block accurately by using the data of a peripheral block and adaptively interpolate each pixel within the loss block by selecting an optimum edge direction, thereby restoring even a complex area including an edge as well as a flat area with low complexity and high image quality. A loss pixel interpolation method using directional interpolation comprises the followings steps of: classifying a gradient direction for each boundary pixel of a loss pixel according to predetermined areas, and calculating ES(Edge Strength) at each area(301); calculating a SDV(Spatial Direction Vector) by using the calculated ES of each area(302); selecting a DSDV(Dominant SDV) among the calculated SDVs(303); calculating a directional distortion value for each of the selected DSDV(304); and restoring a loss pixel by using the calculated directional distortion value(305).
