A message transmission method of a portable terminal is provided to enable a user to know people in a group to which a particular person stored in a phone book belongs, while the user can more conveniently transmit a message to people related to the particular person by selecting a certain condition of the people. When a message key is inputted(S101), a controller displays a receiver input blank(S102). If a receiver is inputted, the controller displays a group to which the receiver belongs(S104). If an overall selection key is inputted(S105), and if a group detail view menu is selected, the controller displays group members belonging to an overall group(S107). If a portion of or the entire group members is or are selected(S108), the controller displays a message input blank(S110). If a message is inputted, the controller transmits the message to the receiver and the selected group members(S111,S112).
