<p>An apparatus and a method for time setup management in a mobile communication system are provided to perform time update of a portable terminal with a current region time if the portable terminal using an asynchronous communication mode incapable of receiving time information from a satellite uses a roaming service. A user moves to a specific regions(310). A portable terminal acquires a new MCC(Mobile Country Code) from a broadcasting message transmitted from a network, and checks whether a service network MCC at a current region is consistent with a previous MCC(315). If so, a time zone of a current region is grasped by performing comparison with a message table by region in the received broadcasting message(320). If the time zone of the current region is consistent with a previous time zone, current time is maintained(325,330). If not so, time of the portable terminal is updated with new region time(335). If the service network MCC is inconsistent with the previous MCC, a time zone of a country corresponding to the new MCC is searched(340). If there is one time zone of the country corresponding to the new MCC, the time of the portable terminal is updated with the time of the country(350,355). If there are two time zones of the country corresponding to the new MCC, a time zone of the current region is grasped by performing comparison with the message table by region of the received broadcasting message(360). After that, the time of the portable terminal is updated with time of a corresponding region(365).</p> |
