<p>A liquid crystal medium, and a liquid crystal display containing the liquid crystal medium are provided to increase Deltaepsilon and to obtain suitable phase range and optical anisotropy(Deltan). A liquid crystal medium comprises an A component as a first dielectrically positive component which comprises at least one dielectrically positive compound represented by the formula I; a B component as a second dielectrically positive component which comprises at least one dielectrically positive compound selected from the compounds represented by the formulas II and III; and a C component as a dielectrically neutral component which comprises at least one dielectrically neutral compound represented by the formula IV, wherein R1, R2 and R3 are independently a C1-C7 alkyl, alkoxy, fluoroalkyl or fluoroalkoxy group, or a C2-C7 alkenyl, alkenyloxy, alkoxyalkyl or fluoroalkenyl group; X1, X2 and X3 are independently a halogen atom, a C1-C3 halogenated alkyl or alkoxy group, or a C2-C3 halogenated alkenyl or alkenyloxy group; L21, L22, L31 and L32 are independently H, or F; Z3 is -CH2CH2-, -CF2CF2-, -COO-, trans -CH=CH-, trans -CF=CF-, -CH2O-, or a single bond; and l, m, n and o are independently 0, or 1.</p> |
