A system for authenticating biometric information is provided to perform authentication by applying a different compression algorithm according to a type of the received biometric information such as a fingerprint, an iris, and a face, and improve authentication reliability by using at least two kinds of biometric information. A biometric information recognition unit(10) receives biometric information such as a fingerprint, an iris, and a face, and displays a state and a result of the received biometric information. A control unit(30) performs compression with a JPEG(Joint Photographic Experts Group) or WSQ(Wavelet Scalar Quantization) compression algorithm according to a type of the biometric information received from the biometric information recognition unit through the wired or wireless network. A biometric information authentication unit(50) includes a microprocessor(53) and a storage device(51). The microprocessor decompresses the compressed biometric information received from the control unit through the network, compares the decompressed biometric information with original biometric information stored in a database, and transmits/displays an authentication result in the biometric information recognition unit through the control unit. |
