An apparatus for converting image signals of an LCD device is provided to display monochrome images by converting image signals for three sub-pixels into image signals for mono gray one pixel. An apparatus for converting image signals of an LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) device includes an image data inputting unit(1), a timing controller(2), a data driver(4), and a liquid crystal panel. The image data inputting unit receives one pixel image signals or three sub-pixels. The timing controller obtains an average value by mixing the image signals for three sub-pixels inputted from the image data inputting unit and outputs the obtained average value. The data driver generates data voltages corresponding to gray levels inputted from the timing controller and supplies the generated data voltages to the liquid crystal panel. The liquid crystal panel, which is driven by a gate on signal inputted from a gate driver(3) and the data voltages inputted from the data driver, displays monochrome images.
