A color filter substrate for a VA(Vertical Alignment) mode LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to manufacture a rivet with a protrusion shape and a black matrix by the same process, thereby simplifying the manufacturing process. A substrate defines plural pixel areas. Color filters(102a,102b,102c) are constructed to the pixel areas. A common electrode(106) is constructed to the entire surface of a substrate having the color filters. A column spacer(108) is constructed to the upper portion of the common electrode and performs a gap maintaining function. A light interception member and a rivet(112) with a protrusion type are formed at the circumference of the pixel area and the upper portion of the common electrode corresponding to the center of the pixel area, respectively. The color filters are the red color filter, the green color filter and the blue color filter. A planarization layer is located between the color filter and the common electrode and planarizes the surface of the color filter. |
