The invention relates to a three-layer glass wool separator, which is built in between the positive and the negative plates of the valve-regulated lead-acid batteries with a closed oxygen cycle. The three-layer separator consists of a layer (A) of absorbing glass wool forming an anode electrolyte area to the positive plate, and a layer (C) of absorbing glass wool forming a cathode electrolyte area to the negative plate, a membrane (M) of modified glass wool being placed therebetween. Under the invention, the layer (A) forming the anode area to the positive plate is thicker and contains a larger volume of H2SO4 solution than the layer (C) forming the cathode area to the negative plate. The membrane (M) has hydrophilic channels for the hydrogen ions and the water to move along, as well as hydrophobic channels for the oxygen to pass from the anode to the cathode area. |
