A plasma display apparatus and a driving method thereof are provided to reduce solarization by decreasing the difference of light emitting amounts for sub-fields through the increment of sustain discharge voltages of sub-fields having larger loads than a reference. The total number of sustain discharge pulses corresponding to the load rates of a first image signal and the number of sustain discharge pulses for sub-fields are calculated(S502,S503). Loads for respective sub-fields on the first image signal are calculated(S505). By comparing the loads for respective sub-fields and a reference load, a first sub-field is detected(S506). A sustain discharge voltage of the first sub-field is adjusted to reduce the difference of light emitting amounts with another sub-fields.
