A user information backup system for mobile terminals and a method thereof are provided to enable a user to apply the user information of an old mobile terminal to a new mobile terminal conveniently, regardless of the type or manufacturer of the new mobile terminal, as a user information server modifies the user information in accordance with the database format of the new mobile terminal and provides it to the new mobile terminal. A user information backup system consists of mobile terminals(100) and a user information server(200). The user information server comprises a terminal information storage part(210), a user information storage part(220), a terminal information comparison part(230), and a user information processing part(240). The terminal information storage part stores every terminal information and the database format information of every terminal. The user information storage part, if user information data are received from a mobile terminal, stores the received user information data according to the database format of the mobile terminal. If a rollback signal is received from the mobile terminal, the terminal information comparison part compares the terminal information contained in the rollback signal with the mobile terminal's terminal information previously stored in the terminal information storage part. If the received terminal information is different from the previously stored terminal information, the user information processing part converts the mobile terminal's database in accordance with the database format contained in the received terminal information and provides format-converted user information to the mobile terminal.
