PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for cooling a steel mantle in an RH apparatus performing oxygen temperature rising. SOLUTION: The method is provided for cooling the steel mantle in the RH apparatus which performs operation where at least one charge or more performing the temperature-rising by using oxygen gas is present. The method comprises: determining the necessity/unnecessity of cooling of the steel mantle 12 from an oxygen temperature rising ratio showing the ratio of the number of charges performing the temperature rising using the oxygen gas to the total number of charges, the average quantity of the oxygen gas for temperature rising obtained by dividing the total quantity of the oxygen gas used for the temperature rising by the total number of the charges and the steel mantle temperature in the RH apparatus1; and cooling the steel mantle 12 based on the determined result.
