PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for converting a material that boils within a boiling range of vacuum gas oil into a product that is a high quality middle distillate and/or naphtha and a lighter product, more precisely to provide a multi-stage method using a single hydrogen loop. SOLUTION: The method is an integrated hydrogenation conversion process having at least two stages, the each stage has at least one reaction zone, and comprises a first-stage hydrocracking reaction zone and a second-stage hydrorefining reaction zone. The first embodiment is directed to the use of a high-temperature stripper and a separator placed between the first and second stages, while the second embodiment is directed to temperature control between the hydrocracking and hydrorefining zones, and in every embodiment, a single hydrogen loop is employed.
