PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an article having a water-repellent surface with excellent water repellency and abrasion resistance. SOLUTION: The article has the water-repellent surface comprising an inner layer and a water-repellent layer formed on the surface of the inner layer on the surface of a substrate. The water-repellent surface has (a) a surface area ratio (S Ratio) of 1.01-1.40, (b) a mean surface roughness (Ra) of 3-80 nm, (c) a route mean square surface roughness (RMS) of 3-90 nm, (d) an absolute value of the difference between the mean surface roughness (Ra) and the route mean square surface roughness (RMS) of≤20 nm, and (e) the maximum difference in height (P-V) of 40-600 nm. The inner layer is formed by sintering a mixture of (A) a metal oxide spherical fine particles with a mean particle diameter of 1-60 nm and (B) a metal oxide spherical fine particles with a mean particle diameter of 50-300 nm, and has a thickness which is≤5 times of the mean particle diameter of (B) the metal oxide spherical fine particles.
