The aid (10) has a ring-shaped supporting body (12) for positioning a pump cover and a gearwheel, and a separating line provided in the supporting body for opening the supporting body with a grip (16) that stands on the supporting body. A grip area is provided for extraction of the aid in the open condition of the supporting body. A lug (18) with a chamfer running in an axial direction is connected with the supporting body for supporting the pump cover or the gearwheel. An independent claim is also included for a method for mounting a pump cover with a component.
