<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image transmission system in which a display device, installed on a platform or concourse of a station to broadcast television images, commercial images, etc., with high image quality nearly in real time. <P>SOLUTION: The video image transmission system is equipped with a central control system, a base station control system, and one or more general station control systems. The central control system converts the fetched optical signals of high-definition images into electric signals, encodes them, and sends the encoded electric signals to the base station control system. The base station control system applies the prescribed signal conversion processing to, the encoded electric signals then decodes the electric signals, broadcasts the decoded electric signals through a large display device, and sends the optical signals of video images to the general station control systems.
