PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet conveying device capable of preventing the sheets fed by double feeding from being damaged as much as possible and separating the sheets fed by double feeding from each other securely without requiring extra handling time. SOLUTION: This sheet conveying device is provided with a sheet feeding part for conveying a plurality of sheets into a conveyance passage sequentially, a pair of upstream side conveyance rollers and a pair of downstream side conveyance rollers arranged on the upstream side and the downstream side of the conveyance passage at a predetermined interval and driven to convey sheets, respectively, a double feeding detection part for detecting length of a sheet overlapped part when sheets are fed while one sheet is overlapped on a part of the other sheet, a determining part for determining whether the sheet overlapped part is shorter than the predetermined interval or not, and a conveyance control part for controlling driving of each pair of conveyance rollers. The conveyance control part makes conveyance speed of the pair of upstream side conveyance rollers different from that of the pair of downstream side conveyance rollers to separate the overlapped sheets from each other when the conveyance control part determines that the sheet overlapped part is shorter than the interval and the sheet overlapped part is positioned among the pair of upstream side conveyance rollers and the pair of downstream side conveyance rollers.
