PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shock-absorbing material for packing which shows superior shock-absorbing properties and a high recycling rate. SOLUTION: The shock-absorbing material for packing is integrally formed by bending a paperboard as a raw material, and is equipped with a box-shaped holding part 2 having an opening at one end for holding an article to be packed and flange parts 3 and 4 extending outside from an opening edge side of the holding part 2. The flange parts 3 and 4 consists of bent portions 3a and 4a bent outside from the holding part 2 in inverted approximately U-shaped manner, and flat external opening portions 3b and 4b extending from the bent portions 3a and 4a.
