PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reverse shift device of a transmission capable of reducing the operational force required for a reverse idler gear to slide. SOLUTION: First and second reverse gears 15, 18 are provided on a pair of speed change shafts 11, 12 parallel to each other, a reverse idler gear 19 is provided on a reverse shaft 13 provided parallel to both speed change shafts in an axially slidable manner, and reciprocated between the engagement position to be engaged with the reverse gears 15, 18 and the disengagement position to be disengaged from the reverse gears by a shift member 28. A thrust bearing 29 for transmitting the thrust force via a plurality of rolling elements 29a is interposed between a fore end of the shift member 29 and an inner surface of an annular groove 19d which are pressed against each other when the shift member 28 moves the reverse idler gear 19 toward the engagement position.
