PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface treatrd metal material which maintains excellent adhesive properties even in the case of intrusion of water when adhered to a woody material. SOLUTION: The surface treated metal material includes a surface treatment layer formed by the application of an aqueous treatment liquid which contains a water-soluble metal complex made almost insoluble in water by heating/drying (for example, a complex in which aβ-diketone such as acetylacetone is coordinated to an Fe<SP>3+</SP>ion), a crosslinkable resin (for example, a resin containing oxazoline groups), and a silane coupling agent and does not contain hexavalent chromium, heating, and drying as the outermost layer on at least one side of a base metal material (for example, a zinc-plated steel sheet).
