The device (IA1) has a vehicle sided transmitting/receiving device (SE1) for receiving identification signals (IDS) with an identification code (CO). A control and evaluation device (ST1) examines the identification code of the identification signals, and outputs control signals (ASS, LSS) for activating a vehicle functioning device (LSE1), when the identification code is identified as a valid code. The control and evaluation device causes the transmitting/receiving device to send the identification signal, when the identification code is identified as an invalid code. An independent claim is also included for a method for identifying identification signals.
