PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preventing the development of spots in a papermaking process, especially the development of spots consisting mainly of calcium carbonate in a neutral papermaking system. SOLUTION: This method for preventing the spots has a step of adding a reaction product of an oxidant and ammonium salt in papermaking process water. Preferably, the reaction product of the oxidant such as sodium hypochlorite, etc., with the ammonium salt such as ammonium bromide, etc., is added to all of a raw material system, papermaking system and recovering system. By using the reaction product of the oxidant with ammonium salt, a trace amount of slime in the papermaking process is effectively removed by a relatively small amount of addition and the development of the spots can be widely reduced.
