PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low height chip coil which takes advantage of the property of coating resin, whose feature is not degraded, and which is designed to be infinitely thin, and to provide its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: In order to achieve a low height chip coil, taking advantage of the property of the coil on which coating resin is applied, the coating resin is previously formed thick. After the coating resin is formed, a portion of the coating resin which does not influence a feature is ground to form the coating resin in an aimed shape. That is, a winding wire 3 is rolled around a core 2 having an outer terminal 5 at one end, a periphery other than a portion of the outer terminal 5 is formed with the coating resin 4, and then the coating resin 4 on the upper surface of a core is polished to be flat.
