PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus having a simple constitution which is not complicated and also provides an excellent image free from image irregularity or an image defect. SOLUTION: The image reading apparatus 100 reads an image recorded on a stimulable phosphor sheet 301 by irradiating the stimulable phosphor sheet 301 with exciting light L1 and photoelectrically converting stimulated luminescence L2 emitted therefrom. The stimulable phosphor sheet has a magnetic sheet 302 on an opposite surface side to its reading surface, and the apparatus 100 is equipped with a drive roller 202 having magnetic force. When reading the image, the stimulable phosphor sheet is attracted to the drive roller on its magnetic sheet side by the magnetic force, and the drive roller rotates at least once, whereby the stimulable phosphor sheet is conveyed nearly linearly in a subscanning direction H.
