PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To consistently convey a medium to be conveyed with high accuracy. SOLUTION: When a rear end of a medium to be conveyed is brought close to a holding point N of a convey-driving means 85 and a convey-driven means 86, the convey-driven means is evacuated to the position for releasing the holding by the convey-driving means. Thereafter, the medium is held only by a discharge-driving means 87 and discharge-driven means 88a, 88b to convey and discharge the medium. Thus, any kick noise generated due to abrupt release of the rear end of the medium from the holding condition of the convey-driving means and the convey-driven means or any skew caused by uneven touch can be prevented, and the medium can be consistently conveyed with high accuracy.
