<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To carry out template matching to track a subject between frames. <P>SOLUTION: A template matching part 104a carries out the template matching of the respective frames of an input image, using respectively a plurality of template images, and extracts a plurality of areas with the highest similarity to the plurality of respective template images, as a matching result, from the input image. The plurality of areas extracted as the matching result is classified into an area used for specifying a subject position within the input image and an area other than that, based on a distance of each of the areas within the input area, and the subject position is specified based on a position, within the input area, of the area classified as the area used for specifying the subject position.
