<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology capable of estimating a sticking fuel quantity to an exhaust passage and an evaporation quantity of fuel sticking to the exhaust passage, by taking into consideration respective boiling points of a plurality of components mixedly existing in the fuel, and further effectively adding fuel in response to these values, in an exhaust emission control system of an internal combustion engine. <P>SOLUTION: When recovering purification capacity of an exhaust emission control catalyst by adding the fuel, the added fuel is classified into at least two groups in response to the height of the boiling points. A new sticking fuel quantity, an evaporation fuel quantity and a sticking fuel quantity of the respective groups are estimated. The next fuel addition is performed before the evaporation fuel quantity of the group lower in the boiling point than the other group, becomes a first predetermined value or less. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
