PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an airtight terminal in which air tight failure is remedied by preventing crevice corrosion in a sealing interface between a stem base and glass in the airtight terminal using the stainless-steel stem base, and to provide its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: An airtight terminal 10 comprises a lead 16 penetrating a stainless-steel stem base 12 and weld glass 14. The airtight terminal is constituted by insulating the lead 16 from the stem base 12 via the glass 14. The stainless-steel stem base 12 has a mounting portion 18 on its periphery and a hollow portion 20 on its center. The mounting portion 18 is in a state in which stainless steel is exposed. In contrast, on the front surface of the hollow portion 20, a nickel plating layer 22 is provided. Thus, when the airtight terminal is mounted on the other component, weld dust generated in a mounting operation by the welding to the exposed surface of the stainless steel of the mounting portion 12 is suppressed and airtightness with the glass 14 is assured by use of the nickel plating layer 22 on which the hollow portion 20 is formed.
