PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide paper crease detection device and method for detecting a paper crease securely even in any situation. SOLUTION: A sensor in the middle on a left end side is arranged at a position for ensuring precision in a paper having A4 size according to the Japanese specification, and an outer side sensor and an inner side sensor are arranged in accordance with the position of the sensor in the middle when using the paper having A4 size as a paper having the prescribed size. Consequently, if a paper size detection part detects that the conveyed paper has A4 size, a sensor selection part selects the sensor in the middle as an optical sensor used to detect a paper crease. Although a sensor at a right end, a sensor at the center, and an inner side sensor on a left end side detect an upper end of paper at the same timing, the sensor in the middle on the left end side is affected by the paper crease.
