PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of effectively correcting even large shake or vibration exceeding a correction range. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus is equipped with: an imaging element drive circuit 108 controlling the exposure period of an imaging element 107; an amplifying circuit 109 amplifying an output signal output from the imaging element 107; an angular velocity sensor 101 detecting camera shake or vibration before taking a still picture; a lens control circuit 103 correcting the camera shake or vibration corresponding to an output signal from the angular velocity sensor 101 by the drive of a lens 105; and a shake detection circuit 102 predicting the camera shake or vibration when taking the still picture from the output signal of the angular velocity sensor 101 and obtaining the predicted shake amount. When the predicted shake amount is equal to or above a threshold showing a limit value in correction by the lens control circuit 103 or a value near to the limit value, the imaging element drive circuit 108 sets the exposure period to a period corresponding to the predicted shake amount, and also the amplifying circuit 109 amplifies the output signal output from the imaging element 107 by an amplification factor corresponding to the predicted shake amount.
