PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical encoder capable of properly receiving light. SOLUTION: This optical encoder 100 is provided with a light-emitting element 30 provided with a light-emitting element 31 for a main signal having a red LED 31A for emitting a red light, and a light-emitting element 32 for an origin having an infrared LED 32A for emitting an infrared light, and a light-receiving element 40 provided with a light-receiving element 41 for the main signal for receiving the red light to generate a prescribed signal, and a light-receiving element 40 provided with a light-receiving element 42 for the origin for receiving the infrared light to generate a prescribed signal. No signal is thereby generated by the infrared light and the red light, even when the infrared light and the red light sneaking turn-incident in around the light receiving element not corresponding thereto, and crosstalks are satisfactorily prevented to make measurement accuracy of the optical encoder 100 to become highly accurate.
