PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plasma control method in arc welding by which welding quality is adjusted in a very simple manner, optionally adjusted welding quality can be stably obtained and welding on the surface side of a box-shaped workpiece can be performed in a simple manner. SOLUTION: A conduction path 3 extending in the direction of a torch fore end of the welding torch 1 is arranged in the welding torch, current I is caused to flow in the conduction path 3 to generate a magnetic field, and plasma 5 generated on the fore end side of the welding torch 1 is concentrated in the axial direction. The degree of concentration of the plasma 5 can be easily adjusted by the magnitude of the current I flowing in the conduction path 3, and any magnet need not be placed on a back side of the workpiece.
