The composition of compounds containing a multiplicity of different elements are optimized in general by full or partial substitutions of one or more of the atoms in such compounds so as to effect an Ne/chi value which represents a peak or near peak value in lambda (the electron-phonon coupling constant) so as to maximize T<SUB>c </SUB>for such compositions of matter.
