The device has a positive temperature coefficient (PTC) heating element arranged between two contact plates (7). Front surfaces (10) of the respective plates project over the heating element, so that a gap exists between the surfaces. A housing has a positioning element extending into interior of the housing and interpositioned in the gap. Each plate has side pieces (12) bent away from the front surface, and the plates are pressed by an initial load in the housing, such that the front surfaces are pressed against the heating element by spring loads, which are exercised by the side pieces.
