The adapter (1) has a connection (2) for attaching the adapter to a connecting piece attached in a pipe line of a water system i.e. house water system. Another connection (5) attaches a water treatment device to the adapter. Multiple channels (7, 8) connect the pipe line with the device. A flow rate measuring device (15) and a closure device (9) are arranged in the channels. An electronic control device receives measuring signals from the device (15). An actuator and the control device close or open the device (9). An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a connection adapter.
