<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten a period of time taken to allow image formation after a power source is turned on, in an image forming apparatus having a heater for fixing toner. <P>SOLUTION: After the power source is turned on, an initializing program stored in a ROM is executed. In this initializing program, a procedure described below is written. (1) First, the temperature of a heat roller, which is a member heated by the heater (halogen lamp), is detected by a thermister and, if the detected value is equal to or below a predetermined temperature, the halogen lamp is driven (S101 to S103). (2) Subsequently, a control program is copied from the ROM to a RAM (S104). (3) After copying is finished, the heater is stopped (S105).
