<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of improving the image quality of a digital image, by decomposing the digital image, using a basis function based on an image and by removing a noise component therefrom. <P>SOLUTION: (a) A set of the basis functions showing statistical spatial features of a plurality of sample images is extracted from the plurality of preliminarily given sample images by independent component analysis (ICA), (b) the target digital image whose image quality is improved is ICA-converted to decompose the objective digital image, based on the set of the basis functions, (c) each conversion coefficient when ICA-converting the objective digital image is filtered by a Shrinkage function to remove the noise component included in the target digital image, and (d) the digital image with improved image quality is obtained by ICA inverse conversion using each filtered conversion coefficient. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
