PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite structure in which the reduction in the strength of a composite member caused by its shrinkage upon sintering and the defect in the sintering can be prevented. SOLUTION: In the composite structure 1 obtained by coating the outer circumference of a core material 2 composed of a first hard sintered compact obtained by binding first hard particles consisting of one or more kinds of the carbides, nitrides and carbonitrides of the group 4a, 5a and 6a metals in the periodic table with a binder metal(s) or composed of a first ceramics obtained by binding first ceramic particles consisting of at least one of oxide, carbide, nitride and carbonitride selected from the group 4a, 5a and 6a metals in the periodic table, Al, Si and Zn with a sintering assistant with a surface member 3 composed of a second hard sintered compact having a composition different from that of the first hard sintered compact or composed of a second ceramics, the porosities of the core material 2 and the surface member 3 based on ANSI/ASTM B276-54 are both controlled to A04 or below or B04 or below.
