<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and method for marking a product, and a computer program product. <P>SOLUTION: An article may be marked with a first identifier that accurately describes at least one aspect thereof at the time of the marking with the first identifier. In addition, the article may also be marked with a supplemental identifier, if the first identifier is no longer accurate or requires clarification, etc. The supplemental identifier may then be read in combination with the first identifier and may therefore accurately describe the aspect of the article at the time of the marking with the supplemental identifier.
