PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backrest device of a chair allowing a seated person to feel comfortable as if the seated person were wrapped from left and right sides because the left and right sides of a back panel are appropriately curved. SOLUTION: The backrest device of the chair supports the back panel 3 made of a hard elastic body such as synthetic resin on the front surface of a backrest frame 2 extended upward from the rear of a seat body 1 of the chair. Engagement parts 9 and 15 are attached to left and right sides of either the back panel 3 or the backrest frame 2, and shaft parts in the vertical direction are mounted as locking parts 8 and 14 on left and right sides of the other member. The back panel 3 is supported to the backrest frame 2 by engaging the shaft parts with the engagement parts 9 and 15 in such a way as relatively rotatable around the axes in the vertical direction.
