The emitter has a stationary part (1)in which a rotary piston (2) is rotatably supported around a rotation axis. An axial voltage supply line (10) for supplying a high voltage (V) to a cathode is provided at a cathode-sided front end of the piston to form an area between the supply line and a grounded outer casing (6) which is oil-free in a region that joins the front end. A gas-filled gap (14) in an area of the supply line is formed between the piston and the part, where electrodes are embedded in a hard insulating medium e.g. epoxy resin or polyurethane.
